So, what’s on today’s agenda? Well, it’s early Saturday morning, and we’re off to explore the Ft. Pierce Farmer’s Market.

-One of Ft. Pierce’s docks.

As we arrive, we’re greeted by idyllic weather. We stroll along the boat docks, marveling at the sea life and wondering about the adventures of the rich and famous aboard those majestic vessels.

The Market Experience

-Approaching the market from the docks.

The market, nestled at the east end of Orange Street in historic downtown Ft. Pierce, next to the seawall, offers a vibrant scene:

  • Dozens of craft and art vendors.
  • Delectable, prepared ethnic foods.
  • Fresh, organic vegetables and meats.
  • Succulent seafood catches.
  • Aromatic spices.
  • Local honey, rich with flavor.
  • Orchids and tropical plants, a feast for the eyes.
  • Live music, setting the perfect ambience.
  • A casual, relaxed atmosphere.
  • Ample parking.
  • An idyllic seaside setting.
  • Seaside tables and benches aplenty.
  • Best part? It’s all free!

Musical Serenade

music band

-The band.

As we approach the market, the melodious tunes draw us in. The music is so captivating that we find ourselves perched on the seawall for an hour, entranced by the melodies and mesmerized by pelicans feasting on schools of fish.

A young couple starts dancing—him in his 80s, her slightly younger—captivating everyone’s attention. Their joy spreads through the crowd, showcasing their youthful exuberance and graceful moves. They’re clearly no amateurs.

Though initial apprehensions about potential mishaps quickly dissipate, the dancers continue to inspire. Even those twenty times younger can’t resist swaying and twirling to the beat. Pure, infectious fun fills the air.

Now, if you’ve been around a while, you might know that I’m too shy and unskilled to join either group. My dancing escapades, or lack thereof, are no secret if you’ve read about my dancing adventures.

Culinary Delights

The aromas of prepared food are irresistible. Who can resist those tantalizing, exotic treats?

It’s early, just 9 am, but short lines are already forming as people indulge in delicacies while strolling along the seawall.

For me, it’s a tad too early, just after breakfast. But later in the day? That’s a different story. Next time, we’ll come a bit later.

We spend more time unwinding, conversing, and relishing the sights of fish, birds, and fellow market-goers. Then, it’s time for a bit of shopping.

Fresh Finds

mushrooms

-Mushrooms.

The produce is simply divine—prices comparable to the grocery store but unmatched in quality. This stuff is fresh, straight from the earth.

My pardner is in her element:

  • Scouring for the freshest picks.
  • Snagging the best bargains.
  • Discovering the rare and exotic.

As for me? I stand back and let her work her magic. When we rendezvous, I’ll take charge of any full shopping bags. And off she goes again, on the hunt for more treasures.

I end up purchasing a little honey—strange for a lifelong, retired beekeeper now without bees. Then, those mushrooms catch my eye.

And that’s

where our paths intersect.

Homeward Bound

With some of our favorite mushrooms in the bag, it’s past 12, and it’s time to head home.

  • More leisurely moments relishing the music.
  • A spot of people-watching.
  • Engaging in conversations with passers-by.

lunch

-Heavenly delight!

And then, it’s home to a fabulous lunch featuring:

  • Fresh mushrooms, onions, garlic.
  • Cassava.
  • Smoked salmon.
  • Sliced heritage tomatoes and cucumbers with olive oil and herbs.
  • A glass of wine.

All except the cassava, wine and olive oil came from the Farmer’s Market. And it cost just $16. That’s a steal for a gourmet meal that would set you back ten times that amount in a restaurant.

What a splendid day. What a delightful way to spend leisurely time with my pardner and savor a sumptuous lunch. These are the moments that craft fantastic Florida winter memories. And you know what? I’m absolutely loving it.

With a heart full of warmth and joy, D 🌴🌊
