Gopher Tortoise

Hey there! Since we settled down in Florida a year ago, we managed to snag ourselves a cozy little house. And guess who showed up on our doorstep first?
None other than Friend, the Gopher Tortoise who shares our land. Oh, and did you know that Gopher Tortoises are a threatened species protected in Florida? Pretty fascinating, right?

-Friend.
Friend enjoys grazing in our yard, and he’s been quite a good sport, tolerating our chit-chats. Well, at least until that one day when I had to gently nudge him aside for a quick nap in the car’s shade. Since then, he’s turned into quite the sprinter, darting away whenever he senses my approach. It’s astonishing how speedy he can be! And the craziest part? A whole year later, he still remembers me!
Seems like my pardner, on the other hand, is still his BFF. He’s completely chill and content with her voice and company. I guess Gopher Tortoises aren’t big on forgetfulness, which probably explains why they’ve stuck around for so long. Fun fact: They were once affectionately known as Hoover Chickens. Adorable, right?

-Friend fleeing.
