It's Hot

Hey there, Sunshine State dwellers!
Can you feel the sizzle in the air down here in South Florida? It’s that time of year when the sub-tropical sun transforms our water vapor into a steamy, unyielding embrace of heat and humidity. It’s the kind of heat that makes us ponder our life choices, yet those brave souls who tough it out for the next two months believe it’s a fair trade-off for the blissful 10 months of perfect weather that follow.
Down here, we owe a debt of gratitude to air conditioning for keeping our cool. Sure, it moderates the temperature, but it does little to alleviate the constant feeling of infrared overload. So, for most of us, it’s basically an indoor party.
Reminiscing About Cooler Times

-antarctica extremes
Now, for those longing for cooler days, how about this? It hit -106 in Concordia Antarctica! That’s a whopping 201 degrees colder than the heat we experienced yesterday. And the crazy part? It’s going to get even colder there before things warm up!
I’ve braved -60F in Alaska, but I can’t even imagine what it’s like at twice that. Suddenly, Florida’s heat doesn’t seem so bad.
Feeling the Burn
While glancing at the weather maps, I noticed Northern Africa and the Middle East were sizzling with temperatures around 110F. Southern Arizona and South Texas? Their temps are giving the Middle East a run for its money!
Now, that’s just scorching! And guess what? It’s only going to get hotter as the season struts its stuff.
I’ve endured 120F in Wyoming’s deserts, but those scorchers only lasted a few days, and the nights brought some relief, dipping below 80F. It’s all about perspective; suddenly, Florida’s heat feels a bit more manageable.
Just Perfect
I bet there are folks from colder corners of the world who’d gladly take a few hours of Florida’s warmth. I certainly daydreamed about it during those freezing, blizzard-filled shifts in Wyoming at -30F. Back then, I thought a hot steam room would be the perfect way to end the day. And guess what? Now I’ve got the same steamy vibes—just open the door and step outside.
As for those accustomed to scorching temperatures, they might find solace in a day on the toasty South Florida beaches, feeling right at home.
For a temperate climate gal like me, beach time in the summer consists of a quick dip for less than 2 hours when the sun’s not trying to fry us alive. After that, it’s all about my trusty air conditioner and sipping on something icy.
So, despite the “almost too hot” situation, with a bit of time, a dash of endurance, and all factors considered, it’s just about right here in South Florida.
✨
Sending you sparkles and ocean breezes, D 🌴🌊
