Sustainable Grasslands

Once, the western plains thrived with vast herds—buffalo, elk, deer, and the predators that roamed alongside them. Yet, when we look upon that same landscape today, it’s hard to fathom how swiftly such a rich ecosystem could fade in just over a century. What drove this rapid environmental shift?

As humans, we find ourselves in a dilemma—we have many mouths to feed and growing energy and resource demands. However, our consumption, vital though it may be for survival, poses a threat to the interconnected web of life of which we are a part.
Like an illness, if our impact doesn’t align with our host, a fever may arise to regulate the population and counteract our influence.
