The Beach

The Beach

-Swimming way out there, probably beyond my better thinking.

Phew! It’s scorching out here, and I’m starting to feel a bit cooped up by the air conditioner. Time to break free and head to the beach, armed with the snorkel gear my brother Don gifted me.

I didn’t expect much since the coral reefs are a good couple of miles offshore. But surprise, surprise! Hundreds of fish decided to throw me a little underwater party, darting and schooling around me.

Maybe they were having a feast on something the waves stirred up, or perhaps a big predator was organizing an early lunch for them. Who knows? 😉

As I ventured out farther, nearly blending into the horizon, there were only fish as far as the eye could see.

But guess what got me all excited? In the deeper waters, a glint caught my eye on the ocean floor. With millions of dollars in Spanish treasure still hidden in these waters, I thought it was worth investigating.

Took me a couple of attempts to get down there—it’s been 50 years since I dived this deep. But when I did, no treasure, just a misplaced dive mask.

After a short breather, I was ready for more adventure.

However, a glance at my non-swimming wife, stuck on the scorching hot beach that’s too toasty even for barefoot walks, made me reconsider. There’ll be another day, probably cooler than this one.

What a gorgeous day it turned out to be. My spirits were lifted, and I hardly noticed the burning hot sand, my sun-kissed skin, or the heat, until I got back home.
