The Cycle of Things

The Cycle of Things

Hey there! Let me share a recent discovery that swept me back in time: my Virago!

It’s been ages since I last laid eyes on it, and the flood of memories hit me unexpectedly. We go way back to 2007, and our parting was quite heart-wrenching.

Here’s the abridged version of the tale:

  • Back in 2007, I packed my bags and headed to Florida.
  • Just before leaving Wyoming, I learned that our leased condo in Florida had a strict no-motorcycles policy! Talk about a surprise encounter with gated communities and owners’ associations.
  • The in-laws in Florida weren’t keen on hosting my beloved bike, offering my first real insight into family dynamics.
  • Storage costs were exorbitant.
  • I ended up selling the Virago at a distressingly low price.
  • Florida didn’t unfold as expected.
  • I returned to Wyoming.
  • I got myself a CX500.
  • But oh, how I missed that Virago!

Those initial encounters with the homeowners’ association and the in-laws hinted at my future in Florida. Looking back, I realize I could’ve stayed put in Wyoming and kept the bike. Lesson learned the hard way, as usual.

I won’t be venturing back to Florida anytime soon. There’s nothing there for me except some property. At least I’m grateful I married the woman, not the entire family.

Since returning to Wyoming, not a single personal call from any of them. The difference now is that I know it, and I couldn’t care less if they call. I won’t be dialing their numbers anytime soon either.

As for the Virago, it’s clearly been through a few hands. The once pristine, classic beauty now boasts a new maroon paint job, almost the same shade as my Honda.

Those new colors reminded me of a J-3 Piper Cub that underwent a flashy metal flake blue restoration. Nice, but just not the same, you know? ๐Ÿ˜Š

But hey, it’s reassuring to know that someone out there is enjoying my favorite time machine. I’m hoping to spot it again and maybe even meet its new owner.
